Biography

John and Joanna Woodard have been married since 1966. They moved to Elizabeth City from Norfolk Virginia, built a home and settled in with a view toward retirement. John has been an independent small business owner since 1992. Previously John was an executive of a national insurance claims adjusting firm supervising more than 25 Branch Offices and over 100 employees in five states with a combined operating budget in the tens of millions of dollars. In addition he was a national accounts sales executive with primary responsibility over the cities of New York , Boston, Washington DC and Philadelphia.
John was born in Washington DC while his father served in the Pentagon. Initially John lived with his grandparents in Myrtle Beach South Carolina before moving to Norfolk Virginia. There, he attended school and met then married his wife Joanna in 1966. They have one adult son John III and a daughter-in-law, Amy who are residents of Perquimans County.

As a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, John is an Usher and a Lay Lecturer. He is a Past Chairman of the Least Among My Brethren ( LAMB ) drive which raises money for disadvantaged children. He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

John has worked on several political campaigns including that of Virginia Gubernatorial Candidate Wyatt Durrette. He has testified before numerous committees of the Virginia General Assembly on behalf of the Home Builders Association of Virginia. Finally, he authored workers compensation legislation that was signed by Gov Robb and is still on the books today.
